Ruku Becomes Health Soap, This UTS Student’s Work Towards National

A sense of pride surrounds the big family of the University of Technology Sumbawa (UTS). This is because two of his students, Nurul Amira and Shobirin, have won the title of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) State Defense Ambassador and are entitled to represent NTB at the national level. The success of this student from the Faculty of Biotechnology and the Faculty of Communication Studies after his work in processing Ruku ((Ociumum Tenuiflorum) – a local plant into a health soap product and efficacious in preventing pathogenic bacteria on the skin. Ruku is usually used as an ingredient for making “sepat” which is a typical food of Sumbawa, NTB).

To note, the event which was attended by two UTS students was part of the Love for the Homeland Parade (PCTA) which was attended by Junio High School/Vocational High School equivalent and universities. The Parade of Love for the Homeland which is carried out in this event aims to capture the works of NTB youth who are able to compete in the national arena. Amira and Shobirin are trying to follow in the footsteps of their lecturers’ research that first won on the national stage with their Kirinyuh Center product. Amira and Shobirin learned to produce works through local potential in order to have greater benefits for the community. Through the guidance of his lecturer at the UTS Faculty of Biotechnology, Khotibul Umam, M.Sc, “Basangilang” products are produced, namely health soaps for skin care and preventing skin diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria. Indeed, the results do not betray the effort. Amira and Shobirin, who were willing to give up their college vacation time to learn new knowledge and innovations from their lecturers, showed their results by qualifying for the national event. “The spirit of achievement must always be present in every human being, especially the young people of NTB. Believe that where there is a will there is a way,” concluded Khotibul Umam.
