Record History, UTS is the Favorite Participant in PIMNAS 2020

The University of Technology Sumbawa (UTS) Student Creativity Program (PKM) team passed the 33rd National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS) 2020. This success was after the jury was interested in the research title “Utilization of Moringa Twigs Waste for Treatment of Vibriosis in Shrimp Infected with Vibrio sp. in Sumbawa Shrimp Farms”. In this prestigious event, the PKM Team led by Salmin R. Abd. Barri, whose members are Khaula Madania and Ulfa Febiana Whatin, was finally determined to win the award as the “Favorite Participant” from a total of 625 PKM titles that passed with a total of 2000 students and 101 universities from all over Indonesia who joined this prestigious annual event.

The National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS) is an annual official event of the National Achievement Center, Ministry of Education and Culture in the field of reasoning to compete for national-level student scientific works. This activity is one of the elaborations of the National Achievement Center program to create a competitive academic climate among Indonesian students. This activity is also the culmination of student scientific activities on a national scale and is held at universities that are determined by the National Achievement Center on the willingness and agreement of all university leaders.

PIMNAS is a forum for scientific meetings and communication of student creations, followed by students or Student Creativity Program (PKM) teams. The National Achievement Center (PUSPRESNAS) in collaboration with Gadjah Mada University has held the 33rd National Scientific Week (PIMNAS) 2020 online on 24-29 November 2020. As a medium and means of communication, sharpening insight, and increasing student creativity in science development knowledge, technology and art, as well as improving students’ skills in presenting intellectual works in scientific forums.

The Director of the Directorate of Student Affairs and Alumni UTS, Mietra Anggara, M.T., explained that the equivalent of gold, silver and bronze awards, for each class was also given the “Favorite Participant” award. This Favorite Participant was determined by the class jury on the basis of considerations, among others, participants whose activity products promised the highest level of benefit, participants who showed extraordinary effort and persistence in completing PKM and participants who showed attractive, compact and entertaining appearances. “Congratulations to those who have won the award. The challenges of PIMNAS in the future will certainly be more difficult, but we return it all to ourselves as students by preparing ourselves from now on, “said Mietra.

The selection of the UTS PKM Team as the favorite participant is a very extraordinary achievement from the previous year. Because this is a new history for UTS in achieving an achievement in the National Scientific Work event.

UTS Chancellor Chairul Hudaya, Ph.D congratulated and also appreciated the achievement. “Congratulations to the UTS PKM Team Salmin and friends and Mrs. Riri Rimbun Anggih Chaidir, M.Sc who have accompanied the Young Eagles to take part in the Pimnas competition. This is a proud achievement, and of course it must continue to be supported in the future. Hopefully there will be more PKM proposals that pass to the national level, so that it can become an arena for students to develop themselves and their knowledge,” concluded Bang Irul—the humanist Rector’s nickname.
