Friday, 2019-09-27. One of the tasks of the Eka Karya Bali Botanical Garden Plant Conservation Center (BKTKR Eka Karya Bali) LIPI apart from carrying out plant conservation efforts is the dissemination of knowledge. Related to this, on September 18, 2019, the Eka Karya Bali BKTKR Research team, chaired by Dr. Sutomo, M.Sc, with members I Putu Agus Hendra Wibawa, M.Sc., and Rajif Iryadi, S.Sc., held a public lecture at the Faculty of Biology, University of Technology Sumbawa (UTS). This activity was attended by 96 participants consisting of UTS lecturers and students. “This public lecture aims to introduce the Research Group (Kelti) owned by BKTKR Eka Karya Bali and laboratory facilities for spatial ecology, taxonomy, tissue culture, seed, applied botany as a supporter of research in academics,” said Dr. Sutomo. He hopes that in the future there can be good collaboration between BKTKR Researcher Eka Karya Bali and UTS Academics in technology-based research and development of Life Sciences. The initiative received a positive response from the Dean of the UTS Faculty of Technobiology Khatibul Umam, M.Sc. According to him, UTS will follow up this matter through a pioneering collaboration with BKTKR Eka Karya Bali which will allow UTS students to conduct research.
On this occasion, there was also an introduction to the Domestic Team, represented by I Putu Agus Hendra Wibawa, M.Sc. He presented tropical forest plants that have the potential as medicinal raw materials. At BKTKR Eka Karya Bali, plants with medicinal potential are collected at Usada Park. The research and development process is carried out using an ethnobotanical approach, namely utilizing the knowledge of local communities in the use of these plants. Besides that, Rajif Iryadi, S.Si., as the representative of the Ecology Department also shared knowledge about the use of remote sensing technology for the benefit of life science research.
