Sumbawa (UTS)- Entering the end of the semester holiday, students from the Faculty of Life Sciences and Technology (FITH) Natural Resources Conservation Study Program (KSDA) at the University of Technology Sumbawa (UTS) will be busy with various college preparations. Some will take care of the payment of the Single Tuition Fee (UKT), some will consult with lecturers. And, some others need focus before the Study Plan Card (KRS) begins. Activities like this require quite a long time and of course, in the midst of a tiring process, refreshing is needed so that you don’t get bored. (08/09/2023)

This time the KSDA Study Program will share tips before entering college. One of them is FITH Fun Hiking and Clean Up Bukit Olat Maras UTS. UTS Olat Maras Hill has a height of around 210 meters above sea level. The hill is in the UTS campus area.

Before climbing, FITH students gathered in the BRI FITH room and did a warm-up and were informed about what they could and couldn’t do during the climb, which was delivered by the Head of KSDA Study Program, Galih El Fikri, M.Ling and KSDA lecturer Davit Aldi, S.Hut., M .Si.

Along the climb to the top we do a clean up then we pass through sandy soil and lots of bushes. When we see the big UTS board, that is a sign that we have reached the top of UTS Olat Maras Hill. After arriving, the activity continued with clean up and fixing the position of the letter T on the UTS board. UTS Olat Maras Hill offers very beautiful views.

“This activity is very interesting because it involves FITH students and makes them aware of the benefits resulting from the UTS maras exercise. And I am very happy to have been a participant in this clean up activity.” Said Khalidan, a KSDA student.

Sumbawa (UTS) – Many cattle breeders in Woko Village, Pajo District, Dompu Regency still use animal feed from green plants and agricultural residues, making it difficult for them to get animal feed during the dry season. Therefore, the training team, lecturer service, UTS Animal Husbandry Study Program students and lecturer Husni, S.Pt., M.Si from the Animal Husbandry Study Program, Faculty of Life Sciences and Technology, Sumbawa University of Technology held community service with animal feed materials to overcome this problem. (Wednesday, August 30 2023)

The productivity of cattle in the Dompu region which has a dry climate by looking at various rearing systems is the Dompu Bima language release system is So. The aim of holding silage and ammonia feed processing training is to provide quality animal feed in the dry season by utilizing excess animal feed in the rainy season or dry season. harvest to increase the cattle population. This activity really helps livestock groups to try innovation and feed processing. This is due to the need for feed to support the livestock business. Utilizing waste is the right way to overcome the current difficulties and high prices of feed. There are various kinds of waste that can be used as animal feed and one of them that we present to socialize to livestock groups is by making silage from agricultural waste.

By looking at the production of corn and rice in Dompu Regency, it is very abundant. However, reality shows the opposite condition. Farmers are still burning remaining corn and rice crops while large numbers of cows wander around looking for food with emaciated bodies. One thing that must be done is the use of Ammoniated Straw. Of course, preventing food shortages, especially during the dry season, so that livestock do not lack food. Livestock productivity will increase, with rice straw ammonia, digestibility will increase, so livestock growth will be better. Ammoniated Straw for Animal Feed. Rice straw is also an agricultural waste containing very low nutrients, namely 4.1% crude protein and 86% cell walls, so that if it is given as a single feed to livestock, it is difficult to meet the livestock’s need for nutrients, even if it is given ad libitum. The following is the processing method assuming 100 KG of straw material. For example, 1 ton of dry rice straw means you need 20-25 liters of molasses/sugar, and 250-300 liters of water to dissolve it.

“Feed is one of the biggest components in the livestock production business, feed alone can reach 70% of the total production costs, so feed is a determinant of the success of breeders, in addition to seed factors and cultivation management. “Good feed management will be the key to the success of a farm, this includes feed procurement and feed banks, feed formulation, and feed management technology as well as processing silage and ammoniated feed.” Said Husni, S.Pt., M.Si as Lecturer in the Animal Husbandry Study Program, Faculty of Life Sciences and Technology, Sumbawa University of Technology.

Sumbawa (UTS) – The Bentang Foundation (Bentang Foundation) collaborates with BRIN Jakarta, the Center for Oceanography, seagrass researcher Wawan Kiswara  and Fisheries Science Study Program Student Diso Rahmat Jondani, Faculty of Life Sciences and Technology (FITH) University of Technology Sumbawa (UTS) to carry out ecosystem monitoring activities seagrass in the Salah Bay area, Sumbawa Regency. Monitoring activities were carried out on 22 July 2023 – 1 August 2023. The sampling locations were carried out at two (2) location points, including Labu Terata and Labu Jambu. The measurement method used to determine the condition of seagrass beds is the Transect and Sample Plot method. The transect and sample plot method is a method of sampling the population of a community using a sample plot approach located on a line drawn through the ecosystem area. This is done to determine the density and percent cover of existing seagrass.

The seagrass ecosystem has an important role in the survival of various types of aquatic biota because it functions as a feeding ground, spawning ground and nursery ground. Apart from that, this ecosystem also has other roles such as recycling nutrients and absorbing carbon, which is more commonly known as blue carbon. Unfortunately, even though it provides many benefits, seagrass ecosystems are still not a priority when compared to other coastal ecosystems, namely mangroves and coral reefs. In Indonesia, there is still no national level program that specifically protects seagrass ecosystems. This fact is very sad considering that Indonesia is home to the world’s largest seagrass ecosystem.

Muh. Fahrudin, S.Pi., M.Si as Deputy Dean and Lecturer of the FITH Fisheries Science Study Program gave the message “Students who are involved in this activity will gain knowledge and experience as well as an overview of the research topic/final assignment. We hope that this collaborative activity or program will provide capital to continue to campaign for the importance of protecting the seagrass ecosystem so that the benefits of its existence will be increasingly felt by all levels of society and as part of our efforts to participate in environmental conservation. “Another hope is that the campus will continue to be able to build synergies and connections with both foundations and government institutions which can have a positive impact on all parties.”

Lintas Sumbawa – Bima KM 11 Serading Village, Moyohilir District, Sumbawa Regency which was organized by the NTB Provincial Department and Animal Welfare and the Forage Breeding Center for UPT BPT HMT Serading Sumbawa on Tuesday, July 25 2023.

This activity was attended by the Head of the Cultivation of Facilities and Infrastructure Division, Ir. Suryadi AK, M.Si representing the Head of the NTB Province Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Service, Mr. Muhammad Riadi, SP, M. Ec, Dev, and the Director General of the Directorate General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Head of the NTB Province Cultivation and Infrastructure Division, Head of the Animal Husbandry Service Sumbawa Regency, Head of UPT BPT HMT Serading Sumbawa Mr. Herfan, S.Pt., M.Inov.

The aim of holding this feed processing BIMTEK is to provide quality animal feed in the dry season by utilizing excess animal feed in the rainy season or harvest season to increase the cattle population. Apart from that, making feed by processing agricultural waste (rice straw) can improve the nutrition and digestibility of livestock, increase livestock body weight and also increase livestock appetite.

Mr. Husni, S.Pt., M.Si delivered material on feed technology guidance (innovations in processing agricultural waste feed (silage and ammoniated rice straw for ruminant livestock (cattle and buffalo). NTB Province consists of the islands of Lombok and Sumbawa which have been designated as one national source of cattle in Indonesia. The area of Sumbawa Island is about three times the size of Lombok Island and has 55% of the NTB cattle population. On the other hand, Sumbawa has a potential source of feed for rice and corn plants. Sumbawa has been designated as one of the national corn barns. Utilization of crop residues Corn as a feed source should be able to overcome the problem of feed shortages and increase cattle productivity.

Sumbawa is dominated by dry land, utilizing food crop waste which is abundantly available in the area. Cattle farming in Sumbawa has shown a low level of productivity where lack of feed is one of the classic causes, especially during the dry season. At the same time, this region is blessed with abundant food sources in the form of food crop systems that have not been widely utilized.

Hopefully this activity can be held better in the following years with a more optimal student period.” Gilang Anugrah Ramadhan Student Ambassador of FITH 2023.
