Marisol (Marine Solution): Organic Fertilizer Innovation-Solid Planting Media Based on Sumbawa Local Seaweed Potential https://fith.uts.ac.id/en/2022/07/19/marisol-marine-solution-organic-fertilizer-innovation-solid-planting-media-based-on-sumbawa-local-seaweed-potential/ https://fith.uts.ac.id/en/2022/07/19/marisol-marine-solution-organic-fertilizer-innovation-solid-planting-media-based-on-sumbawa-local-seaweed-potential/#respond Mon, 18 Jul 2022 22:13:20 +0000 https://fith.uts.ac.id/?p=4829 In the success of the University Work Program period 3 contained in the 2013-2036 UTS RPJP related to increasing the innovation of the academic community, the Faculty of Life Sciences and Technology (FLST) also makes a real contribution by developing superior innovation products created by lecturers and students. On this occasion, the FSLT academic community in collaboration with Sumbawa Technopark and Start-up Archi Biotech has developed one of its superior innovation products, namely Marisol Biofertilizer (Marine Solution) which is made from seaweed waste from the Sumbawa coast. This innovation was initiated to be a solution to the problems of farmers, especially in Sumbawa, namely the scarcity and high price of fertilizer in the market.

Introduction of Marisol Fertilizer to the Deputy Regent of Sumbawa Dewi Noviany, S.Pd., M.Pd

The raw material for Marisol Biofertilizer is Sargassum sp. which is one type of seaweed that is abundantly available in Sumbawa waters. This is an added value of this product, because FSLT lecturers and students are also campaigning for a movement to care for the environment. Sargassum sp. obtained from the waters of Tanjung Pengamas, Labuhan Badas District. Furthermore, the seaweed is dried and chopped with a special seaweed chopper machine. Sargassum sp. that has been chopped mixed with fertile soil with a certain dose and stored in an airtight closed container for the fermentation process.

Marisol Biofertilizer has previously been through a series of studies related to its effectiveness. Tests on ornamental plants, obtained better growth compared to bokashi and chemical fertilizers. Ornamental plants fed Marisol Biofertilizer have larger flowers and faster growth. Tests on maize (a food crop) showed the use of Marisol Biofertilizer accelerated root growth and leaf count. Based on the results of research that has been done, this fertilizer is suitable for ornamental plants and food crops. Marisol Biofertilizer has a functional microbe of 1.05 x 106CFU/g. This indicates that the microbial diversity in Marisol Biofertilizer is very high. Marisol fertilizer quality tests in accordance with Ministry of Agriculture Regulation No. 261 of 2019 are still being carried out at the Testing, Calibration and Certification Services Laboratory of IPB. The tests carried out were C-Organic, C/N ratio, water content, heavy metals (As, Hg, Pb, Cd, Cr, Ni), pH, macro nutrients (N, P2O5, K2O), micro nutrients (Fe Total , Mn, Zn). Marisol Biofertilizer is packaged in 10 kg and 5 kg packages, with prices of Rp. 28.000,00 and Rp. 15.000,00. The UTS Road To MXGP Expo activity is the first launching of Marisol Biofertilizer which is the result of innovation from FSLT lecturers and students. With this activity, Marisol Biofertilizer became heard among the UTS academic community and the Sumbawa community. It would be better if in the future, Marisol Biofertilizer was included in product exhibitions related to agriculture or ornamental plants in order to directly attract the target market.

The Chasing Dreams essay competition was held in the last half of last year, 30 November-19 December 2020.

Sanrina and Erik said that their initial motivation for participating in the Pursuit of Dreams writing competition was because they wanted to join one of the Student Activity Units (UKM) of KSM Elang Muda UTS, where one of the requirements was to take part in a writing competition. “As special students, we also want to be normal students, such as being actively involved in positive activities on campus. I myself took the theme of writing about entrepreneurship, because so far we know that most people in Indonesia in starting an entrepreneurial plan always have obstacles that hinder in business operations.

Seeing these obstacles or problems, it is a challenge for the author to provide innovative solutions that are solutive, namely the realization of better or positive social entrepreneurship in solving social problems for the benefit of the community,” said Sanrina.

UTS Chancellor Chairul Hudaya, Ph. D said, “I congratulate the winners. Keep on sharpening your writing and critical thinking skills. Tie knowledge with writing.” Chairul concluded.

SINERGI KKN: Early Initiation of SCIENTIFICTOURISM-Based Villages https://fith.uts.ac.id/en/2022/07/06/sinergi-kkn-early-initiation-of-scientifictourism-based-villages/ https://fith.uts.ac.id/en/2022/07/06/sinergi-kkn-early-initiation-of-scientifictourism-based-villages/#respond Wed, 06 Jul 2022 00:34:08 +0000 https://fith.uts.ac.id/?p=4815 Carrying out community service is one of the obligations of all educational institutions to contribute directly to the community. Studies and research at the university level can be expressed in the form of studies and technology to the target community. The hope is that the existence of educational institutions such as the Faculty of Technobiology, University of Technology Sumbawa (FTB UTS) with its vision and mission through the tridharma of higher education will truly be felt by the community. Two main things of community service activities by FTB UTS are:

  • As a concrete effort and agency responsibility to participate in the intellectual life of the nation.
  • As a place to distribute various research findings / studies conducted by universities.

Community service is one of the main tasks and functions that must be carried out by lecturers, as functional staff in higher education. From the two important points above, community service must be placed in an important position and become a priority as well as learning and research activities. With this, FTB UTS encourages and facilitates lecturers to do community service. So far, there are a number of community service opportunities that can be utilized by lecturers, including PPM community service funded by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, UTS community service institutions, UTS TEMATIC KKN as other forms of collaboration with various stakeholders. To expand the opportunities for lecturers to carry out community service, FTB UTS offers opportunities for special community service activities for lecturers in the UTS environment, through internal funding budgets that are managed in their respective faculties.

This activity will become an annual routine agenda and needs to be continuously improved both in quantity and quality. In order to support the government in reducing the impact of COVID, the FTB UTS community service program adapts to conditions in the area, namely by making offline and online service regulations. This regulation is regulated by prioritizing existing COVID-19 prevention protocols. Offline this program focuses on mapping village potential, while online this program focuses on village promotion. There are three villages that are the targets of this SINERGI KKN program, namely Marente Village, Batu Bangka and Labuhan Jambu. This village was chosen because it has a representative potential for natural resources and the uniqueness of Sumbawa. In order to launch the SINERGI KKN program, FTB is supported by several faculties with different disciplines such as the Faculty of Communication Studies, the Faculty of Psychology and other faculties at UTS. The hope is that with cross-scientific, different villages can feel the benefits of this program.
